Energy Codes 2008
Energy Codes 2008 will take place July 22 - 25, 2008 at the Crowne Plaza St. Paul-Riverfront in St. Paul, Minnesota. This event will provide hands-on training and face-to-face networking through various training activities. Registration is now open.

Jeffrey A. Johnson Award Nominations
Nominations are now being accepted for the third annual Jeffrey A. Johnson Award for Excellence in the Advancement of Building Energy Codes and Performance. This award recognizes a leader or a team in the United States (US Territories included) for sustained service of the highest caliber in the pursuit of energy efficiency goals.

REScheck 4.1.4 Released
REScheck version 4.1.4 was released in April, 2008. REScheck version 4.1.4 provides the following modifications: Automated and/or manual version checking was added, the New Jersey state code was removed from the Codes menu, the Georgia state code was changed to be based on the 2006 IECC, messages to the user under a 2006 IECC equipment performance scenario were improved, and several report formatting modifications were made.

COMcheck 3.5.3 Software Released
COMcheck Version 3.5.3 was released in March, 2008. Version 3.5.3 includes the following: Automatic and manual software version checking is now incorporated into the software. The Georgia state code option has been modified such that it is based on 90.1-2004 and has Georgia-specific metal building U-value calculations and amendments to mechanical equipment efficiency. To allow users the option of more fully describing building area categories under the 2003 and 2004 IECC, the multifamily area category option has been added to the list of use areas although there are no lighting power density requirements for living units.

Three-Part Series on the Requirements of ASHRAE/IESNA Standard 90.1-2007
The Department of Energy is sponsored three webcasts that offered an overview of the Lighting, Mechanical, and Envelope requirements of ASHRAE/IESNA Standard 90.1-2007. Video of these webcasts are now availabe online.

Advanced Energy Design Guides Available
ASHRAE has completed Advanced Energy Design Guides (AEDG) for Small Office (SO) Buildings, Small Retail (SR) Buildings, and K-12 School Buildings. These guides, intended as companion "above code" documents for ANSI/ASHRAE/IESNA Standard 90.1-1999, demonstrate how these buildings may be built 30% more energy efficient than the standard. ASHRAE is also working on an additional guide for warehouses.

DOE Code Change Proposals for the 2007/2008 ICC Code Development Cycle
The U.S. Department of Energy has drafted 15 code change proposals for the International Code Council's (ICC) 2007/2008 Code Development Cycle. The proposals pertain to the International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) and International Residential Code (IRC). All proposals apply only to residential buildings except for item 6, which applies to all buildings. DOE invites comments on these proposals and may, at its sole discretion, modify proposals in response.
