Lennox makes good quality heat pumps and other HVAC products although there is a consensus that Lennox tries too hard and over engineers some of their equipment.

I bought this unit to replace a 12 year old Trane. The Lennox unit is much quieter, and until colder weather showed up, it did a good job of heating the house. I was very pleased with the noticeably lower electricity bills. However, with temperatures in the upper 20s to low 30s, it won't heat the house above 62, even with the auxiliary heat operating. The Trane never had this problem. Installer says we need a backup furnace as well as the heat pump, which we didn't need with the Trane. In other words, this expensive Lennox heat pump is only useful for about three fourths of the year. I doubt we'd ever recover the cost of having two heating systems from the lower energy use of those heat pump months.

The contract or did a fairly good job installing this heat pump. It was expensive but it cam highly recommended by a colleague at work. The unit looks good and it runs great. Much quieter than my old unit. I am hoping it will save me on my electric bill when I get it.

Four months ago they installed my new Lennox heat pump and so far no problems with it all. I'm very satisfied with the heat it produces. I've only had one chance to see how well it cools but if it does as good a job as it does heating I don't thing the cooling part will be a problem. Much better than my old Rheem heat pump.

I've had nothing but probelms with this lennox heat pump. I've replaced the fan motor and had a freon leak fixed. last week it quit working and i called the service company and they had to replace the circuit board in the heat pump. I can't recommend Lennox to anyone after my experience with this.

TRANE HEAT PUMP/AC UNIT
written by Pam in Louisiana, June 22, 2009
I have an 8 yr old Trane heat pump/AC unit with a variable speed air handler and backup electric heat. It has been nothing but a lemon since we got it in 2001. For the first 2 yrs, the technicians were out here every six months, then after that every year. Just about every part has been replaced it seems like, the fan on the heat pump, the condenser, now the evaporator coil, more things I can't remember. I called the TRANE company when the unit was about 2yrs old and told them it was a lemon. They refusted to take it back. Will NEVER have another TRANE.

I have a Lennox XP-19 Heat Pump! Wonderful machine! Low operating costs, extremely quiet. Very even and consistent temps throughout the house! I heat my home with this heat pump and one bank of heat(5kw) I have another bank in case I ever need it, but it rarely uses the back up heat at all. Last winter when I was doing it's annual winter tune-up, I was amazed that I was getting 86* air at the register in first stage while it was 25* outside! Set up properly, these heat pumps can't be beat! The key though, is, they have to be set up properly.
