We had this heat pump installed before we bought the house....it was a part of the deal for us to put a contract on the house and its much better than the old system that looked like a rusted hulk.

bad dealer
written by jlane, May 11, 2009
I bought a house three years ago with a new XL14i system... now my dealer says the compressor is shot and that since I did not file a transfer of warranty form, that the warranty is not good, and it will cost me over 600 for the compressor, plus the parts and labor.... the factory warranty says it covers the owner of the real estate, and any succeeding owner for 10 years..... so, it appears that the dealer is trying to make an additional 600 dollars on me. He is a registered Trane dealer, Green Construction... beware, there are those that will screw you all around....

Trane seems to like dealers that screw with the customer

I have a new Trane, less than 3 years old and just got a bill for $800 for freon leak that had to be fixed. The line set is not covered under warranty and it is only charged annually. We are going to talk with an advisor before we pay the bill. Our Trane dealer has been out 4 times since the new unit was installed and 3 of those times he said that it just needed some freon. The last time he found the leak and "fixed it". Now I have to pay over $800 to Scott's Heating and Cooling in Greenwood, SC.

I have contacted Trane but they don't seem to care since it is not the "unit". My advice, is to buy a lawyer if you plan on a Trane unit.

Hey Guy,
Yes, transferring warranties is run-of-the-mill stuff...for companies that actually LET the warranty transfer from the original buyer.

You failed to perform your end of the deal, now you pay the price. Don't be angry with the dealer, be angry with yourself--that's who "screwed" you.

Purchased 2 new XL 19 heat pumps last year with 10 year warranties. Pack Rats got in and chewed the wiring. Seems the large opening allowing rodents to enter is my fault and not covered. My dealer says the factory is aware of the situation but has not done anything to fix the design. Customer care could care less. Do not bother to call. Also purchased Clean Effects air filters which never seem to have much dirt trapped in them after 3 months of service. My old pleated filters would be filthy by then. Just where is all the dirt going?
