Okay, this guy puts out some good information but he is insane by saying HVAC contractors kill hundreds of people every year. His seminar information is kind of slanted and probably for a good reason. There is not an HVAC contractor I know (or HVAC technician for that matter) who would want to intentionally kill someone because of a faulty condition with a furnace. It's bad for business. Opening the door and sucking out the carbon monoxide? Just opening the door sucks all the air out of the house? He's flat out wrong there! A seminar I went to stated that most of the carbon monoxide deaths come from people warming their cars up in their garages even with the door slightly open. The CO builds up and eventually overpowers the occupants of the house. That is contrary to what I initially believed before going to this seminar which happened to be on combustion testing and was packed to the rafters with these so called HVAC technicians who no nothing about combustion testing. I've condemned many gas and oil furnaces from cracked heat exchanger and they were cracked for various reasons as he describes in this video. One of the most common reason I've seen cracks in heat exchangers was from faulty heat exchangers from the manufacturer. Even after condemning some of the heating units and disabling the units for cracked heat exchangers I come back the next day or a few days later and the occupants have turned the unit back on again because they thought heat was more important than breathing. I disable the unit for professional and ethical reasons and have the person sign the invoice for the service saying the unit is dangerous and should not be operated.

How many home inspectors kill people every year? I'm sure I can come up with numbers and ways and post some videos on the internet. As far as the HVAC Contractor scamming people on cracked heat exchangers I'm sure it exists but I can tell you there are many good HVAC contractors out there who help the people make the best decision for the customer and not for a scam or the bottom line on an accounting sheet. There are bad apples in every group (including home inspectors) but you never see me waving this magical wand and denigrating an entire profession because of a few bad apples.
